Hope's Door offers two types of residential services to survivors of domestic violence - emergency shelter and transitional housing. Anyone wishing to access our services is able to call our 24-hour crisis hotline (972-422-7233). Callers to the hotline will receive information about the services available at Hope's Door, safety planning assistance, and referral to other resources if necessary. The crisis hotline is answered in both English and Spanish. 

Our emergency shelter offers temporary housing to survivors and their children fleeing life-threatening situations. Clients living in our emergency shelter are provided with food, clothing and all the necessities of daily living along with case management, safety planning, counseling, legal advocacy, and referral to other community resources. Clients can stay in the emergency shelter for up to 30 days and the location of the shelter remains strictly confidential to ensure the safety of those living in the shelter. Children living in the shelter are enrolled in schools nearby or may attend their home school if it is safe to do so. 

Once a client leaves the emergency shelter, she may be eligible to participate in our transitional housing program. This program provides up to 24-months rental assistance along with case management and life skills workshops.

The mission of City House is to provide emergency shelter and transitional residential services to at-risk children and young adults who are in need due to abuse, neglect or homelessness.

Today we serve youth ages newborn to 21-years-old through three primary programs: Emergency Shelter for children that includes outpatient Counseling Services for individuals and families, our Transitional Living Program comprised of homes and our Youth Resource Center that also houses our Outreach Services that are at the core of the programs.

City House Emergency Shelter (Ages newborn to 18 years)

Known as “My Friend’s House” the emergency shelter provides round-the-clock care and services in partnership with Child Protective Services for kids who have been removed from their home due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or dangerous environment.

The Stewpot provides services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, as well as to children and families who are at-risk.

The information below is for those experiencing homelessness; for information on our Children & Youth and Family Stabilization programs for at-risk children and families, please click here. If you are not homeless, please call the community help line at 211 for a more appropriate referral.

To those experiencing homelessness, we offer a comprehensive set of services at our main location at 1822 Young Street, Dallas, Texas 75201 (see map below).

Appointments with caseworkers are made at the front desk by the intake coordinator Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for same day morning and afternoon appointments (except Tuesday afternoons and holidays). The Stewpot hours are:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 8:00 am to 3:45 pm

Tuesday: 8:00 am to 2:45 pm

There are no casework services/ID assistance appointments on Tuesday afternoons. Priority for Wednesday afternoon appointments given to new female clients.

All appointments are made in person on a first-come, first serve basis. The Stewpot does not provide casework services or make appointments over the telephone.

We also offer three meals a day, 365 days at year at The Second Chance Café within The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center at 1818 Corsicana Street, Dallas, Texas 75201. Please contact The Bridge for information and eligibility requirements.

Austin Street Center provides safe shelter and meets the basic needs of the most vulnerable homeless. Intake for Women:  begins at 2:00pm everyday.

The mission of the Housing Crisis Center is to prevent homelessness and to stabilize those at risk in decent, affordable, and permanent housing, and to empower them to solve their own housing problems in the future.

HCC has two kinds of programs, serving different homeless populations. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides the majority of our funding and determines the guidelines we follow. Clients come to our programs from the Veteran’s Administration or caseworkers at area homeless shelters.

U1R Housing Programs primary focus is moving families from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 12 months of entry.  Individuals and families depending on what they have available at the times.  No age limit on children as long as they are 18 years or younger.  In exchange for housing, residents are required by written agreement to work full time, obey the program guidelines, and attend volunteer taught classes in life skills, employment, community living, and budgeting.  In addition to housing and life-skills counseling as well as intensive case management, Under 1 Roof provides the following through a network of community support: food pantry, medical assistance, dental work, GED classes, haircuts, glasses, school clothes, school uniforms, etc.

Process:  Letter of homeless can be obtained by shelter if they stay there between 24-48 hours with required documentation (proof of identification for all household members and proof of income both earned and unearned)

Required: Monthly case management, financial courses, and scheduled and unscheduled home visits.

ABOUT BACK ON MY FEET

They work with homeless individuals and families who are currently staying in a shelter (Dallas Life or Salvation Army).  The individual or families must be involved with their agency for basic life skills, employment services, computer classes if need be, running program and financial education courses.  After the 90-day program ends, they could assist with financial aid by providing additional support from the vouchers given to them by the shelters such as Deposits and application fees for apartments.

HOME SWEET HOME PROGRAM

The Salvation Army Home Sweet Home Program helps prevent homelessness and support residential stability by providing homeless and at-risk households the tools to effectively budget and manage income and expenses.

Through The Salvation Army's Home Sweet Home Program, professional case workers, along with friends or partners in the community, can prevent homelessness not only at the point of family eviction, but beyond.

To put a family back together after it is broken requires more time, skills and financial resources than many families have available. Through financial education, case management, financial assistance (1-6 months) and monthly budgeting, families may be spared months of misery, saving the community thousands of dollars in sheltering and rehabilitation.

To be selected as a participant in the Home Sweet Home Program, a family must show a strong desire to change, improve their family's situation and work within the program's guidelines.
