Individuals visiting our Food Pantry experience a self-choice operation arranged like a grocery store. Each person selects the items they prefer with quantities based on family size and available stock. Case Managers may provide one or more vouchers (each voucher is for one pantry visit) based on need.

Because we receive donations from several area stores, the North Texas Food Bank, and individual donors, as well as fresh seasonal produce from area gardens such as Coppell Community Garden, our stock varies from week to week. Items generally available include:

• Canned vegetables, fruits and meat items
• Helper-type mixes
• Dried beans & rice
• Seasonal fresh produce
• Breads and pastries
• Baking supplies
• Toiletries & hygiene items
• Household cleaning supplies

Volunteers assist clients through the pantry.

The Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with final appointments at 4:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with final appointments at 12:30 p.m.

WIC IN TEXAS (food)

In the state of Texas, citizens and legal residents living in low income households may be eligible to receive food stamps, a government food assistance program. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or food stamps, helps millions of Americans purchase groceries that they may not have been able to afford otherwise.  

SNAP for Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) is a government sponsored program that provides healthy foods for at-risk families. WIC benefits are given based upon financial need, and allow women who are pregnant or have recently given birth to purchase nutritious foods for themselves and their children under the age of five. New mothers and small children who do not have regular access to healthy, nutritious foods may be at high risk for malnutrition and other nutrition-related conditions. WIC SNAP is meant to protect the health of mothers, infants, and children who are considered at-risk for malnutrition by providing education and free food benefits. The WIC application is filled out during a mandatory preliminary medical appointment at a WIC clinic. The purpose of the doctor’s appointment is for a trained medical professional to evaluate the applicant and determine if she and her child are at-risk for malnutrition related health conditions.

For more than 40 years, Christian Community Action (CCA) has been healing, feeding, and educating families in need throughout Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Wise counties. What started as a Bible study group of seven people in 1973 has grown into an organization of over 150 staff members, and more than 2,500 volunteers. Headquartered in Lewisville, CCA is one of the largest private nonprofits in North Texas, providing more than 10,000 individual services each year.

Through careful case management, CCA’s holistic approach from rescue to transition helps families in need achieve self-sufficiency by offering a “hand-up” instead of a hand-out.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSISTANCE

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for assistance:

 Reside within CCA’s established service area

 Provide proof of 90-day residency if requesting financial assistance (Frisco families must be referred by Frisco Family Services)

 Be 19 years of age or older

 Prove financial need

 Document income, expenses and crisis

 Provide identification for all household members

 Have a viable action plan, or be willing to form a viable plan, with a CCA caseworker

NOTE: Emergency or basic assistance may be available to those who do not meet the 90-day residency requirement or the income guidelines outlined below.

CCA uses 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) and 80% of the HUD Poverty Guidelines to qualify individuals for CCA services.

In the event of bad weather, the Friendship House will follow CFBISD School Closings.

Located on our church campus, The Friendship House provides food, clothing, and small household items to people needing assistance. If you are in need of assistance, please bring a photo ID and *proof of residence.  You can also help by volunteering at The Friendship House, donating clothing and household items, or by making a financial donation. Clothing donations can be dropped off daily from 7 am-7 pm. Our desire is to give away items we ourselves would wear or use. The majority of our food items are purchased through the North Texas Food Bank, using the monetary donations we receive for handling fees.

The Stewpot provides services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, as well as to children and families who are at-risk.

The information below is for those experiencing homelessness; for information on our Children & Youth and Family Stabilization programs for at-risk children and families, please click here. If you are not homeless, please call the community help line at 211 for a more appropriate referral.

To those experiencing homelessness, we offer a comprehensive set of services at our main location at 1822 Young Street, Dallas, Texas 75201 (see map below).

Appointments with caseworkers are made at the front desk by the intake coordinator Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for same day morning and afternoon appointments (except Tuesday afternoons and holidays). The Stewpot hours are:

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 8:00 am to 3:45 pm

Tuesday: 8:00 am to 2:45 pm

There are no casework services/ID assistance appointments on Tuesday afternoons. Priority for Wednesday afternoon appointments given to new female clients.

All appointments are made in person on a first-come, first serve basis. The Stewpot does not provide casework services or make appointments over the telephone.

We also offer three meals a day, 365 days at year at The Second Chance Café within The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center at 1818 Corsicana Street, Dallas, Texas 75201. Please contact The Bridge for information and eligibility requirements.
